This bowl has been thrown on my potter's wheel and then tin-glazed in the maiolica tradition. The green colour of the spring leaf has been applied by brush work on the unfired glaze. I have scratched into the unfired glaze to draw the bare branches of a winter tree. I also rub the glaze from the rim to allow the red of the underlying clay to break through the glaze.
